Background tools
Processes, services, event logs, files and the registry on a device, without disturbing whoever is signed in.
Updated
A device's Tools tab looks at the device without a remote session. Each request is a signed job the device answers within seconds (it's woken at once). Answers are kept for an hour, then dropped; who asked for what stays in the audit log. They need RevoAgent 0.11, and permission to use background tools (owners, admins and technicians by default). API tokens can't use them.
| Tool | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Processes | List them by memory use, and end one. RevoAgent won't end itself or the operating system's own processes. |
| Services | List them, and start, stop or restart one. |
| Event logs | Search Windows event logs (System, Application, Security, Setup) by level, event ID and text, or the Linux journal by unit and priority. |
| Files | Browse folders and download a file up to 4 MiB, or the last 4 MiB of a larger one (useful for logs). Network and device paths aren't allowed. |
| Registry | Read keys and values on Windows. Nothing is changed. |
Turning them off
Settings → Scripts → Background tools turns them off for the workspace; a customer's Scripts page can set
them on or off for that customer. Devices drop them at their next check-in, and requests still waiting are cancelled.
On a device itself, a local administrator can turn them off in RevoAgent's settings (tools = false).
