Uninstall the agent

Remove RevoAgent remotely from Revo, or locally on Windows, macOS and Linux.

On this page

There are two ways to take a computer out of Revo: Uninstall agent removes the software from the computer, and Remove from Revo only revokes the device's identity. Use uninstall when the computer stays in service without Revo; use remove when the computer is gone (lost, wiped or decommissioned).

Uninstall remotely

  1. Select the device on Devices (or open it), then More → Uninstall agent….
  2. Type the confirmation and choose Uninstall. Only owners and admins can do this, and it needs agent 0.5.0 or later.

The agent reports back first, then removes its service, files, keys and settings. Revo then removes the device, keeping its history, and records Uninstalled remotely in its activity and the audit log.

If the agent can't reach Revo to confirm, it retries for at least 10 minutes before removing itself anyway, so a device never disappears without a trace.

Remote uninstall is refused when:

  • the device's local administrator switched it off (uninstall = false, see Local controls);
  • the agent is busy with an install or a collection: try again when it finishes;
  • the agent is older than 0.5.0: uninstall it locally instead.

Remove from Revo

More → Remove from Revo… revokes the device permanently. Its history stays, but it can never check in again with that identity, and it no longer counts against your plan's agent limit. The software stays on the computer: if it's still running, uninstall it locally too.

Uninstall locally

Run these as an administrator or root on the device. Then remove the device in Revo if it's still listed.

Windows

The installer-link EXE removes its own service:

PowerShell
& "$env:ProgramFiles\Revo\Agent\revo-agent.exe" uninstall --purge

Without --purge the service is removed but the identity in %ProgramData%\Revo\Agent is kept. If you installed with the MSI, you can also uninstall it from Settings → Apps → Installed apps or with your RMM's MSI uninstall.

macOS

Stop and remove the LaunchDaemon, then the agent's folder and logs:

Shell
sudo launchctl bootout system/com.revotg.agent
sudo rm -f /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.revotg.agent.plist
sudo rm -rf '/Library/Application Support/Revo/Agent' /Library/Logs/Revo

Linux

Shell
sudo systemctl disable --now revo-agent
sudo rm -f /etc/systemd/system/revo-agent.service
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo rm -rf /usr/local/lib/revo-agent /var/lib/revo-agent

Reinstalling

A device that was uninstalled or removed can't come back with its old identity. Install the agent again from a new installer link; it enrolls as a new device.
