Install, scan and restart now
Run patch scans, installs and restarts on demand instead of waiting for the next maintenance window.
Updated
On this page
Maintenance windows handle routine patching. For everything else you can scan, install and restart on demand.
Where to start it
- Patching → Updates: select updates → Install now….
- Devices: select devices → Scan now, Install approved or Restart computer….
- A device's Updates tab: Scan now, Install now, or Retry on a failed update.
Before anything is sent, the dialog lists the devices that will be skipped and why (offline, agent too old, turned off locally, nothing to install, patching paused, patch management off).
Install
- What: everything approved for each device, or only the updates you selected. Selecting updates yourself counts as approving them, under your name.
- Download only stages the updates for the next maintenance window and never restarts.
- When: now, or later within the next 7 days, and how long devices may keep starting new updates.
- Restart: Use each customer's policy (the default), or Restart if an update requires it, Don't restart or Always restart afterwards, with the warning time and the message signed-in users see.
Licence acceptance and the latest restart time always follow each device's own policy.
Scan
Scan now asks the device for a fresh list of missing updates. It can include optional updates and drivers. Scans still run while patching is paused, but not for a customer whose patch management is off.
To refresh everything a device reports (status, software and missing updates), use Collect now instead (Device actions).
Restart
Restarting a computer always asks you to confirm the impact: signed-in users see your warning and message, unsaved work can be lost, and the device is unavailable for a few minutes. The Restart button stays disabled until you tick that you understand.
What can't be sent
| Situation | Installs and restarts | Scans |
|---|---|---|
| Patch management off for the customer | Refused | Refused |
| Workspace paused | Refused | Run |
Device's local patching or reboot switch off | Device skipped for what's switched off | See the dialog |
| Agent older than 0.4.0 | Device skipped | Device skipped |
Follow the result
Every manual action is a deployment. Open it in Patching → Deployments to watch progress live and read each device's and update's result. See Deployments and results.
Older agents and your own RMM
Devices with agents older than 0.4.0 still show what they're missing but can't install through Revo. Until they
update, or if you prefer your own RMM, the API serves a read-only-by-default script
(GET /api/v1/patching/remediation-script): it lists what it would do unless run with -Install, updates outdated
applications with winget and installs pending Windows security updates through the device's own update source. It
never restarts.
